Bob,
My wife put 27,000 miles on her Audi A8 in one year. I just can’t support
2,000 mile oil changes. And that is only one car. About two years ago I
had to replace the valves covers on FUN BUS as they rusted through and
started leaking. The tops of the heads were still clean except for some
discoloration. Yes, fuel varnish. No sludge or carbon build up. Now at
251K the 7,500 mile changes have worked. I doubt I will try to rebuild
this thing when it finally lets loose anyway. It owes me nothing and I
doubt more frequent changes would make it last any longer. If doing a task
and spending does not add value or benefit, than it is a waste.
Dennis

Sorry
I strip alot of engines gas, propane and CNG. The gas engines show lots of
varnish and sluge. The propane engine is always as clean as the day it
went
togther bright and shinny inside and I could convince you its was just
like
new. I have stripped synthetic oiled engines that had a high oil line and
the varnish was thick above the oil line. I think that there is great
advantage to frecquent oil changes with muligrade oils they contain
detergents 2k is alot for me. I think the time spent under your van is
always well spent
Oil changes early and often this is just as important for engines that are
just started and run a short time then shut off.
Gas acuumulation and cylinder washing does more damage to cylinders than
normal running. VW orignal oil change intervals
was 1500 miles
And yes oils have changed alot in 50 years
