No, you'll need a fast elbow as you crank the engine.

Also, I heard that powered and heated mirrors > were an option for later model vanagons. Anybody have > any experience doing this sort of thing?

Same scenario as adding power windows. It's even easier with power mirrors. The heating element is built in to the mirrors. If you use the factory harness, there is a pigtail that goes to your rear defroster harness. Activating the rear def activates the heating element in the mirrors. I use to add power mirrors in w/o the wiring just for convenience's sake until I discovered that it takes minutes to wire them when you harvest the harness from the donor vehicle. Yes, I've done a few.

And the last question about this "newer vanagon > tech," besides power door locks, power windows, and > power mirrors, was there anything else, like heated > seats, or am/fm cd?

No factory CD just AM/FM/cassette. No reason why you can't out an aftermarket one in there. They did have an option for heated seats. Switch goes on the top of steering wheel column cover. Use just about any element from any compatible heated seat system from other cars if you can't find the Vanagon ones. Ebay is a good source for these if you are too lazy to go hunting. I have found that the switch and cover is often cheaper new from VW than some of the Ebay vendors.

I've written about these before so you'll find these in the archives.
