David, Are these just standard tapered roller bearings? If so you can probably just read the fine print stamped on the edge of the inner race and cross reference against a decent bearing manufacturer like Timken. Or, plug the number into Google and see what happens.

I found replacement bearings for my trailer by using this technique.

Yes, I realise this isn't Vanagon related, but it is the Vanagon's big brother we're talking about so it's all in the family and I am *stuck* :-(

I am rebuilding the rear differential for my 1993 VW LT 4x4 - I have all bearings and seals except for two of them... of course VW Canada / VW USA can't get 291 prefix parts and BC Bearing here in town can't cross reference these bearings from their size.

On the differential housing is:

HURTH AXLE MOD NO 103 A 59 Serial Number R29778 91 HURTH AXLE 38002 ARCO (TRENTO) ITALY

It seems that since this was built, Hurth and Clarke Axle merges and then Dana bought the lot up... Dana had, or at least the people I was speaking to, had no idea what the heck this axle is or where to get parts.

The part numbers are

291-525-193-B 291-525-193-A

These are the bearing that are on either side of the differential - ETKA illustration 58-40 for the 1993 VW LT 4x4

The list has helped me out of tight spots before and I really look forward to any leads that anyone can get me.

David Marshall
