Thanks to all who responded on this. I still don't really know why these things are showing up - it's my website, I wrote the code myself in html, so I know it's nothing I put there! But I have traced it vaguely to my web host, as my site is actually split across two hosts and the favicons are only showing up on one.

They don't bother me, I was just mightily curious! And it's really nice to be able to send emails like this one (on Fridays, of course!) and know that someone out there will know the answer! You're all a fine bunch of folks.
