Mark,

Make sure that whoever ends up doing it uses 309 or 309si filler to weld it. Those stebros are made from ferritic 409 IIRC, and you'll definitely want 309 to help avoid martensite formation(a term used to describe a pattern of grain/crystal structure) and eventually cracking. Especially with them being brackets. I think you would actually be MUCH better served to use big band clamps to hold the brackets(or new ones) on and avoid both of your problems(finding a welder, and making sure they do it properly)
