A Westy will fit in a standard garage, with a roll-up door, provided the door is rolled up all the way so the max height of the standard opening 84" or 7ft is not compromised by the door hardware. A swing-up type garage door takes up over 4" of space at the top of the opening, and therefore will not work for a Westy. Installing a roll-up door isn't too expensive, and maybe you can split the cost with the landlord. It would be better to do that, and then go with smaller tires! I have a low garage ceiling and had a double track roll-up door installed, worked perfect! My home was built in 1957, so the "standard" door height has been there a while. Good luck! -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Jake Beaulieu Sent: Wednesday, October 10, 2007 8:33 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: help fitting van in garage Hello, My wife and I are relocating from northern Indiana to Cincinnati next month. We are having a heck of a time finding a rental house in Cincinnati with a garage tall enough to fit my 82 Westy camper in. I know this has come up on this list before. I was wondering if anybody has come up with a good solution to this problem. I am thinking along the lines of trying to get some super small tires for the van just to get it in the garage. Maybe something like the small donut tires used as spares on passenger cars. How small can you go? Any help is appreciated. My wife and I are getting frustrated passing up nice homes because we can't get the van in the garage. thanks a bunch, jake and the wife |
