How about tin coating on the contact surface of the ground strap? Just melt a small pot of tin and dip the end of the ground cable into the hot molten tin. I have seen tin coating tools from hardware stores. It is just a small pot with built-in heater core in it. The question is how to apply tin coating to the Vanagon chassis.
