I've never traveled in Mexico - and yes the US can be bad - however at least you can trust the authorities in the US (most of the time). Also chances are you're not going to be robbed at gun point by a group of people in unmarked SUVs with flashing lights posing as police or federal agents.

There are bad people anbd dangerous places everywhere - even Canada.
