I took some pictures last time I took replaced the blower and resurfaced the air flaps.  I hope it helps:

By now you have probably received John Meeks post with link to a write up on the job.  It is a decent write up though I was previously working on an improved version until a computer crash killed it and I have not had time to get back to it.  You do  not say what year your van is but I have used the write up John suggests when I did our `87 Westy Syncro, I found a few discrepancies but nothing a reasonably intelligent person could not over come.  Go ahead and tackle yours and if you have a problem ask the list or pmail me and we will get you on track.  Make sure that you have the clips mentioned in the write up before you split the heater box(I use a wood chisel for this) so that you can put it back together again.  Once you are done with yours come on over and give a hand as I have to do my other `87 Syncro soon.
