<http://wanderwagen.com/>What trips shouldn't we take? I'm serious. There are some I'd choose not to take in the VW because it isn't on my "must experience by Westy" or even "must camp here" list, but shouldn't we try to figure out how to travel where we might dream to go? Consider the couple at 20yearsoverland.com or the vwvagabonds... were they smart or just lucky to pass through so many countries, some of which were risky at best? Think of the everyday obstacles people like Larry or Joy have overcome right here in North America. These folks give me inspiration and confidence to cook up my own long distance plans.

I meant to send this to the list as a Happy Friday note, but here goes:

Turns out earlier this fall Pat & Ali departed the Land of 10,000 Lakes (Minnesota, yeah) in a 1958 Panel Bus (custom conversion) and they're going to _drive around the world_. Normally I watch "We're going to take off & live in a VW Camper Van" sites with a cautious eye, because fulltiming isn't for everyone. Then again, this couple already completed a 4-year tour sailing around the world, so I'd wager they'll adapt to living in a VW bus on the road. They share their adventure chronicles here:

Daygig warning: They're going to join me for an online Q&A Tuesday October 9, 2007 at 8 pm ET / 7 pm CT / 5 pm PT. They're willing to answer everyone's questions about their journeys and adventures, and I think it will be really interesting to travelers, people who want to be travelers, and VW camper folks. The discussion happens here: http://tinyurl.com/2lkoeg but if you'd like you can also PM me in advance with questions for them. After the chat starts you'll have to join the site to add comments or questions.

At the minimum, check out their travel site. They're living the life! They even took part in the Great American Race in a '65 Porsche. Good thing the '58 Bus is a little roomier for this trip.
