And, there's the Self Fulfilling Prophecy phenomenon. It applies even in this bedroom suburb we live in.

(1) It's dangerous to go out at night!

(2) Why? Because no one goes out at night.

(3) Why don't they go out at night? Because it's dangerous to go out at night.

(4) Ad nauseum.
