On a Syncro, the gauge temp sender is a small single wire type. Bentley shows the 2wd wiring with a 2 wire sender, not correct for Syncros. Syncros use the same sender as the older 1.9 engine.

The temp gauge sender screws into the metal lower half of the thermostat housing. It has a round "t" shaped connector sticking out of it. The single red/yellow wore has a female .250" inch spade connector on it. This slides over the protruding "t" of the sender.

On 2wd with 2.1, the lower half of the thermostat housing is plastic and these use push in senders with sealing o-rings and retaining clips.
