Subject: Running rich.....me too
Content-Type: text/plain

My Fellow Pilots,

My '85 is also running rich. Although it may have been doing so for a while now, it has really been bad since I installed a new throttle valve switch (the 2-in-1 type). Could this gizmo be the culprit? To be honest, I'm not quite sure how the thing is supposed to operate: it's supposed to physically open or shut the valve, right? The way it sits under the throttle body, I don't understand how it accomplishes this.

The problem was so bad this past weekend that it wouldn't even start. I was forced to get it towed to a shop that charged me $237 for plugs (that could have been cleaned), a distributor cap (that they didn't even use; they put the old one back since it was only a couple of weeks old), and a rotor(okay; I needed a rotor), and lots of head scratching. They claim to have checked fuel pressure (okay), but said they have no equipment to test the electronics. My problem is that neither do I, unless a simple multi-tester can do the job.

Will proper adjustment of the throttle switch likely relieve the fuel rich symptom, or do I have other issues to consider?

Thanks, as always,

Cecil '85 Westy Wolfsburg "Der BrotKasten"
