Subject: 87 Syncro Rough Running then Dies
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Last Sunday, in the middle of trying to move my mom, my van suddenly started running rough at a stop sign. Knowing that the a/c puts a load on the engine, I turned it off. Ran slightly better but after leaveing the stop sign ran rough again. I made it to my mom-in-law's about a quarter mile away and when I drove in the driveway and pushed the clutch in it died. Hard to restart but got it going and made it back to my driveway where it quite again. I got it started again and the idle surged up a bit, dropped down and continued rough so I turned it off. Turns over but can't start since.

I don't hear the buzz of the fuel pump when I turn the key on, just a "clunk." Am I on the right track to think it's the fuel pump or are there other things to check too?

It has about 170,000 on the motor.

Thanks. My last tune up was a little over a year ago.

Donna, 87 Syncro
