My S.O. spent the day today going from Borrego Springs (east of the fires, down in the desert) up to Julian and back with her horse trailer, helping friends and others evacuate their stock to the desert, in case they get the evac. order there. She says the barn, down in Borrego, where she keeps her horses and give some lessons is FULL of goats, chickens, horses, mules, lamas, Alpacas, etc...all being crammed in and boarded by the Barn owners for the 'refugees' from the fires.... She tells me so far, she's only smelled smoke once, being east (upwind) of the burn area, but at night, the sky is full of reflected flames... And Mike is right about the soon to be following mud events....after the previous fires, called the "Cedar fire", of a few seasons ago, huge mudslides make it clear into Borrego Springs, about 20 miles and 4000' from the burn areas... Sheesh... Don Hanson |
