  If I understand everything properly, this seems to have been an
installation error.

  First, the installer found that the 2nd replacement canvas appeared to be
'2 inches too long'.

  Then he proceeded to install it with the perceived 'extra' material folded
over, and then trimmed it off.

  Then he discovered at the very end that it was about 2 inches too short,
when it ripped while opening the top?

  Am I getting this right?  I feel bad for him, too!

  I have always found it to be good to learn from others' mistakes.
  No offense, but, in this case, I really don't think that anyone should be
filming a how-to video, attempting to perform a task that they have had
little or no experience successfully accomplishing, and then posting it on
the web in an attempt to demonstrate the procedures to other people.

As a general rule, I believe that it would be best to post proper 'how-to'
videos made by experienced people.

The thread subject says it all I guess.
