I can only contribute my experience. I had a 91 GL in which I put a Boston Bob engine. At the same time,I replaced the thermostat housing, the plastic distribution piece on the right side of the engine, all hoses, expansion tank, etc. In other words, every piece of the cooling system in the engine compartment. I used OEM spring hose clamps. I then filled up with Dexcool. Over the next fee months, I saw evidence of seeping / leaking in many spots. Hoses seeped, thermostat housing seeped, etc.. I then drained, flushed and refiled with regular green antifreeze. This ended the problems, leading me to conclude that the orange stuff was the cause.
