Comparing what showed up on the list server vs. your message sent directly, you are NOT using the standard quoting convention. The direct message used an HTML <blockquote> tag to indent the "quoted" text, something which will not carry through a properly configured list server.

HTML is bad in email, especially list servers, unless done with explicit prior agreement of all parties. http://www.expita.com/nomime.html
