Well without a picture or something , how is anyone to know ? I assume the case isn't melted with the crankshaft showing... Obviously your choices are : - fire it up and see what it does - pull it and toss it - pull it and disassemble and inspect.

I seldom can find time to inspect, sell, and package and ship vanagon parts these days, but most likely I have any small or large part you could need for that repair. Scott www.turbovans.com

I'm planning on a buying a 86 vanagon that had a engine fire (not too bad melted harness and lines).I plan on repacing all rubber and plastic bits in engine compartment,my question is will the fire have damaged the motor itself?thanks for any imput- matt
