Thanks, Dennis. I've checked timing, and did the basic throttle bypass idle adjustment with the stabilizer bypassed, and found that the screw needed to be turned out (counter-clockwise) about 10 half-turns in order to get the idle up to the specified speed. However, a fellow Vanagon owner suggested that this was too far, based on his experience with these engines.

Is this an issue? Anyone know if 10 half turns is significantly far off the mark?
