Dragracing in Vanagons!  That's odd.  I guess a good thing about using
Vanagons in speed contests on the street is that you can probably do it
anywhere, anytime and no one will notice..Grin..
     A few racetrack sayings apply here:  "If you want more speed, add
lightness."  "There is no replacement for displacement" and "Nothing beats
cubic dollars"
     When I build my dream syncro, I'll put in a Subie Turbo motor..or heck,
if I have the cash, maybe a Porsche 997 twin turbo at around 550 rwhp and a
sequential 6 speed gearbox.  That would be some sight, burning away from a
signal, clouds of tire smoke from all four corners..
