I don't know about an engine recall but I do know some number of engines was replaced under "goodwill".

Here is the story: The P.O. purchased the new 1991 Vanagon GL Westfalia Canadian model in Germany. Drove it around Europe for a couple years then brought it home to Canada. I purchased it from him about 5 years ago. He told me when I bought it that the engine had been recalled at 50 000 KM and replaced with a brand new one. Is this possible?
