The 12 volt power for the auxiliary air regulator requires the engine to be actually running. It is feed from the same supply that powers the fuel pump which also powers the injectors.

The switch connection will show ~5 volts. One wire goes to the ECU and other one completes the circuit to the chassis. Bad grounds will also effect the reading.

Greetings,

New dilemma (new to me, anyway). When last we talked, I'd discovered that my brand new Throttle Valve Switch had been murdered. The prime suspect: the electrical connection, believed to be the aux air regulator wire mis-connected. So to test this hypothesis I got out the multi-meter. I fully expected a 12V reading (ignition on, just as directed). Instead, I got zilch. As in zero. When I moved the tester's contacts around within the plug, the most I got was an occasional " - " which let me know that the tester was prepared to register something. But...nothing.

This says to me that I probably have a bad wire. From the Bentley's, the other end of this wire goes directly to the ECU, as it's part of that morass of spaghetti known as the Wiring Harness.

So can you repair just one wire in this harness? I can't see how you'd be able to take it out of the multi-pin connector and all that. And if you can't repair a single wire, where do I find a new wiring harness and how much dinero can I expect to drop in the process? Are there other realistic options for those of us who can't solder/weld/hot-glue worth spit?

Cecil
