True it can be done for much less if you do it yourself, but most people can't, and of the people that can, most of them won't be able to do it to the same level as kyle. From each pin and terminal used to the wire type and everywhere in between, he knows the correct ways to build a good harness. That isn't to say it's not possible for less, or can't be a DIY project, but I guarantee the quality of the final product won't even come close to what he'll provide you with... and since you're only as strong as your weakest link, $400-$500 is great price for a harness done correctly.

At least with the wbx lot's of the terminals and backshells are available in small quantities to DIYers which at least makes what you're talking about possible.
