My brother has been looking for new or used 16” steel wheels to fit his 2002 EV MV Weekender. He wants to buy a set of traction tires and mount them to steel wheels for winter driving and keep his stock 16” alloy wheels and tires for summer driving. He’s had no luck finding 16” steel wheels for an EV. Discount Tire does offer an aftermarket alloy wheel that would fit but it’s a 7- ˝” wide rim. It’s only a 1/2 “ wider than the stock 7” alloys but wheel clearance is already very tight and the wider rim may completely prohibit the use of cable chains which already have marginal clearance.

He’s done as much internet research as his free time allows but still isn’t convinced that a better solution may exist.

Perhaps there’s someone on this list that would be willing to share their Eurovan traction tire/steel wheel/aftermarket alloy wheel experience with us? Is anyone familiar with Hankook Ice Bear tires?

Please reply to me, not the Vanagon List!

Andrew
