Well I took a deposit on the van and it's sold... I did get more than 1.9k but less than 3k...

People keep saying a lot of sellers are asking too much for their vans... I believe we enthusiasts should try to keep a good level of demand for the vanagon, extolling the virtues and not completely knocking the the sky high pricing of some sellers.

There is the idea that something is worth only what others are willing to pay... that's not the only metric, tho. A running vanagon has a certain utility value, and aesthetic/pleasure value. Perhaps in the future a certain rareness may add value as well. I believe by the utility metric and aesthetic/pleasure metric my 87 was worth more than 3k.

One thing I'm certain of is if the value of a running, but not pristine Vanagon is TOO LOW, every car with something broken or ugly will be parts car. Why put any money into a car if it's not somewhat reflected in the value.

Also since I'm not selling the car anymore... I can say for sure... The Wolfram Gray Wolfsburg's are the best looking factory vanagon. bar none.

I also take great pleasure in the online help and personal help I've gotten from the the vanagon communitiy. It does add value to every vanagon, IMO.
