Hi Ben,
I have had this experience, and I have had quick shipping. I tend to
view Busdepot as they are presented to us, a smaller business, with good
pricing, and most likely a few potholes along the road, simply because
of who they are and how they seem to work.
A month ago, I ordered a one part, and it took 16 days to get to my
house, Penn to Utah. I just now got off the phone with them, and Rick
spent half an hour going through gasket kits, verifying that I was
getting the right parts for my 81 air cooled. Based on what I took off
the engine, and what the kit contained, if we had not spent the time, I
would have been very disappointed when my package arrived, but because
he was willing to dig into the details, and chase the parts on the
shelf, I know what I will be getting, and what to be sure and ask about
next time as well.
If you can find a place that will spend over 30 minutes chasing the
right size gasket, to make one sale, I suggest you give them your
business. I don't have those kinds of options available where I live.
In addition, consider this oddity, that I have seen over and over, as a
customer, and as a shipper. Sometimes UPS/FedEx simply do not put a
priority on some company's packages. If you track your purchase, you
will see that it often takes a heck of a long time for it to get out of
Pennyslvania in the first place. I am sure that if there is only time
for one more package, from either BusDepot or TigerDirect Computers, the
BusDepot box is gonna be left until tomorrow. That is not a reflection
on Ron's business, I think its just a fact of big fish vs littler fish,
aka priorities.
I did get Blue Label shipping today, and was told it may get out
tonight, tomorrow at the latest. Certainly, UPS will have to actually
move this package, because of the premium I paid for their service. The
parts were $65 and the shipping was $17 (and the list discount is in
there as well) That is a good deal, and I can start putting it back
together this weekend.
If I can, I want to give my money to the people who seem most interested
and willing to go the extra mile. If I really have to have it right
this minute, then its the dealer, or whatever local option, no matter
the cost. I think you just have to view it as buying from a small
business, rather than Sears or (gag!) Walmart types of shops.
I don't care if Sears goes belly up, but I do want Busdepot and the
like, to keep us supplied with what we need for as long as possible :-)
