Old antennas will work just fine, biggest issue is (like Mike already mentioned) it's an all or nothing deal. If near metro area's you'll be fine, but out in the boodocks.. might as well just bring the old video iPod or that compact DVD player. There is no 'snow' or static on the signal. You can either pick it up, or not.

Better yet. curl up with a good book, or play chess or something!

ps: that bus with the antenna farm on the top is hilarious! Come In Tokyo!!!
