I don't want to be too negative, but as far as I know, you can't legally buy or sell a used cat in the US. That's what they told me when I tried to buy one at the junk yard. (I had to separate a perfectly good cat and O2 sensor from a muffler just to buy the muffler).

So if it's not a legal sale to begin with, your recourse maybe limited.
