Yeah Loren has it right. The LSD(waiting for a joke) will give you much improved inline traction, and better power oversteering for exiting corners, but with ice or any source of lower traction it greatly lowers the threshold at which controlled power oversteer becomes loss of control and a spin vs. 1 wheel drive(open diff). The vanagon wheelbase is pretty short to begin with, but most people aren't speed demons that drive them.. it's pretty subjective as to if it's a good idea or not.. what are your goals?
