The reports I am getting (an personal exp) is that you have more than one wheel getting traction means that you can go further without getting stuck..As long as you are gentle with the throttle.. The clutch pack style limited slip is definately better for keeping both wheels turning evenly in ice and letting the van stay in a straight line...but you can't buy that type of diff...So the torque biasing style is all we have. And it works soooo much better than the stock setup. The van going up a washboard gravel road make is much smoother too. Less wheel hopping. There is a locking version of the LSD coming out very soon. I have gotten mounts made as well to put a syncro into a 2wd for those who need a granny gear with the locker..too many choices.
