Hi there:

I saw a reference to a device called an "extend a stay", listed on an article titled a van for all season. http://home.earthlink.net/~johndolsen/id13.html

Has anyone here used one? What's involved in connecting it? Looks like a great ideal if it actually works.

Yes, I have. I've have one on my van's second tank under the slider door. I've put them on the main tanks for customers BUT it's gonna be a major PITA due to the space it requires between the service valve and regulator. This space requirement makes it impossible to connect the copper tubes to the end of the regulator without a major re-bending of those tubes. Usually trying to re-bend the original tubes will lead to kinking as the tubes are not flexible enough, probably from old age. The most successful route is to make all new tubes right from the connections under the sink or make a junction at midway of the straight sections. As for usefulness of the "extend a stay" they work great. Get yourself a hose connection of the length of your choice and then you can connect practically and self regulated propane device to it. I use mine to operate a Coleman cook stove out on a picnic table rather than cook inside and make a mess of the van's interior. They have an auto shut off feature so they only open when you connect a hose. The hoses sold for this purpose also have auto shut off valves and only open when connected to a device.

Cheers,
