Some have added a locking diff from the Syncro to the RWD transmission.  This gives you some control over when to  switch from 1WD to 2WD.

I've been considering having limited slip added when I have my
transmission rebuilt.  I live in Maine where snow and ice is the norm
much of the year.  It sounds like you're saying this isn't a good idea.
  Care to explain your experiences?  (Experience is what you get when
you were expecting something else)
