Hi, If your 'alternator bolt only has one bolt holding it to the block' is meant to apply to all waterboxer vanagons, that would be incorrect. "The Alternator bracket sits on two studs in the block. They do break if things are loose there. If it's all tight, lasts just fine. Very common failure too, so it's smart to check *all* the bolts in that area.
