Storage of unregistered cars in California is not possible these days.
Unless you never register again if you do they will charge you all
registration fees that you missed plus fines. I had registered my
84 with none operative which was meant to put the vehicle in storage.
I kept it washed, waxed, battery charged and engine tuned. But I
never drove it. I did that for 4 years. Somehow they spotted that
the Vanagon had not moved for too long and they did not like it.
A buddy put a camper trailer on his drive way. He was forced to remove
it. A neighboor across the street had a large trailer (the size of an RV).
He could not keep it on the drive way either. He eventually sold his house
and moved away. The city's code prohibits trailers with no motors to
be stored on the drive way.
But no worries. My vanagons are in perfect running condition now. I will
chain them on the tree so that they can not steal them even when I am
sleeping at night.
