Thanks for the update. Climate makes a big difference which naturally makes me think in a different way. Besides, California has a probably largest pool of used (and new of course) cars in the states. There are so many options for everyone's different needs. So people toss and pick used cars with completely different mindset. When it comes to engine conversion I naturally think of it in a different way. A lot of Vanagons are junked rather than getting a rebuild or a conversion. Just two weeks ago I saw a 85 vanagon with perfect rust free body (dent free too) getting parted out and ready to be crushed for metal recycling. It would have been a candidate for a Subie if it is in your area I believe.
