Maybe they changed the OEM later on, but on my '81, the ones from Go Westy weren't a whole lot different than the originals. Screws instead of pop rivets, sure, but the mounting surface of both the loop and the provided washer were about the same. I think the loop itself was actually thicker diameter. Nothing like the difference you describe. Then again, maybe it's the Go Westy ones which have changed.
