Hi Brian, I also have an 84 1.9 manufactured in 10/83 and I had a very similar problem a few years ago. The thing seemed at first like it was happening only on moist days. It would happen from time to time while driving down the road after awhile and then start to buck and quit all together most times. I'd pull off the road and try to restart. Sometimes with immediate success sometimes it took some time and tlc. After doing almost verbatim what you have done plus a few other things. Cleaned out my fuel tank, did the rebuild for fear it was sucking air. What I ended up finding after almost a year and a ton of frustration was a bad coil wire. It was only 2 years old and a Bosch. I found it at random on one of the stall outs. The end was partially broken off under the boot at the Distributer. I cut the end off, stabbed the wire onto the pin in the hole and taped it up. The bus ran incredible the rest of the way home. I sent the wire back to Bosch and they replaced it but less than a year later I was having trouble again and the other end had broken. Now I use STI/Bremi wires and have had no issues at all for over a year now. I hope this may help you out or help someone out down the road.
