Hi all. Partial user error. Check valve may be faulty. I was using an adaptor to help reach the spark plug holes. Not needed. BUT, when tester under pressure, instead of releasing air with valve, I popped it off the flex hose. "pop!". Pressure in the flex hose. Of course the one way valve is at end of flexible line. This valve may be suspect. Regardless it worked fine without adaptor. Used w/o adaptor (engine cold) I got: 150 150 150 Then...... 50 on # 3. :(( The plug on this cylinder also looked fouled when I first looked into this engine. #3 also has what look like collapsible push rod tubes. There is one of these on # 4 too. #3 may be Hinky. When testing other cylinders, I hear a "bluuup bluuup" sound. With tester installed on #3, no "bluuup bluuup" sound. Maybe lifters are soft from all that gas? I couldn't feel any obvious play at rockers. (valves closed) Also hinky; oil pressure switch not connected. And I can't find the wire/connector. (??) Time to start yanking sh*t off. -- Neil Nicholson. 1981 Air Cooled Westfalia - "Jaco" (Bustorius) |
