I think that now we are getting to the real reason that you found so much fuel in the engine block. Indirectly caused by the leaky diaphragm of the pressure regulator, which led to a buildup of fuel in the intake that ignited inside that one runner and damaged that injector tip such that it would constantly spray fuel, flooding the engine internally from then on.
