I have to replace the exhaust on my 87 Syncro. Might piecemeal it, but would prefer to just do the whole thing, but they are expensive.

Don't have a lot of Vanagon experience, so I don't know if the exhaust is Syncro specific. Searching online, it looks like it is.

Can anyone confirm that it is different from a 2wd exhaust, and what exactly is different?

Raymond, the 2WD and Syncro exhaust systems are exactly the same except for the following:

Syncro specific front header pipe unless you remove the skid plate or lower it one inch then you can use the 2WD version.

Syncro specific muffler support brackets

Syncro specific rear header pipe heat shield
