I loved the old "engine rebuild" additive and pellets that JC Whitney used to sell. You dumped the honey-like substance* into your oil, and put the pellets in the cylinders after pulling your plugs.

I bought one of those kits in 1999 as a gag gift.

*I've actually used very thick oils (eg. STP Stop Smoke, etc) to quiet down Vanagon lifters when folks used oil that was too thin. This is a temporary, non-optimal solution. But, it works. Also, had an oil pump going south in a Subaru, and the thicker oil kept up oil pressure enough to stop the "tick" so we could get home without totally destroying the engine.
