The fiberglass bumpers were stock on later models, not an upgrade. They were an upgrade trim package on some other models but are factory, stock. As for replacements that would reduce your approach angle the only ones I know of are the bumpers from GoWesty. The tube bumpers from Van Cafe or aircooled.net will be worse than what you have. I have the Van Cafe bumpers on my '90, I know.

New shocks shouldn't change the ride height at all (though you probably would like the Bilsteins especially if you current shocks have a lot of miles on them or are the very harsh KYB shocks. But there are other good shocks on the market that are cheaper than the Bilsteins and should give just as good a ride on the highway.
