It sounds like you damaged the throwout bearing, or a the clutch. Inspect first, then decide what parts are needed.

My kids something similar to my 85 and managed to drive it for 100 plus miles home, (taught them to "slip shift" as a part of learing to drive, I'm a truck driver).

A new clutch and bearing were all it took to get going again, until the next time they damaged it.
