Replacing the accessory drive v-belts on a waterboxer vanagon could not possibly more straightforward. There are no tricks. Loosen the alt tension and pivot bolts, pivot alt, remove belt, etc. etc. etc. Oh, the AC compressor is a bother a bit. Need to study those bolts carefully. The PS ......slightly tricky to identify the right bolts if you've never done it before, but basically its .about as straight forward as could be as belt changing goes. Be sure to spin each accessory by hand to check for play or roughness. It's not uncommon for alternator bearings to be loose or rough. Carefully check the alternator mounting bracket, that's a weak area - those break if things aren't kept properly tightened. That water pump, that one that's a nightmare to change with the engine in the car - those last about 70K miles only, quite commonly. Scott www.turbovans.com

It's time to replace all the belts on our '86 with A/C and P/S. I've done belts on Diesel Vanagons quite a few times, but have never done a WBX.

The WBX has more belts than a Diesel, for sure. It looks pretty straigt forward.

Anyone have an tips to make it better/easier/faster/etc.?

;)

Thanks,

Jon

PS: I already installed a quart of Blinker Fluid. That stuff works!!!
