It's out, the new New Beetle is going to be rear-engined! It will be a variant of the 3-door Next, which begins production late next year. There will be a wider 4-door and a 6-seater Next variants as well.

I don't know what the engine layout will be, but probably an 800 (parallel?) twin and 1.2 turbo triple. Flat, no doubt.
