There is little to no chance that it's bad again. I've talked to suppliers and although they take returns most tests show the temp is not to blame.

Why is the fan not running?

I went through this with a gauge that was too high but replaced the radiator, temp sender, wiring, new grounds ect. And still the gauge was high.

You can take ohm readings to test the sender and I built a resistance box to test the gauge. Found out my gauge was just to sensitive in its old age.

You need to check grounds from the gauge (brown) to the body as that ground cluster behind the dash on the drivers side can cause issues. If I recall high resistance means lower temps. Therefore a connected by bad ground could be at work. I also ran new wires from the temp sensor to the gauge.

If you need specifics I have lists I've made of resistance at given water temps to help trouble shoot my issue. Did lots of work because specific values are hard to obtain from vw, EDO and Bentley.
