I think the most obvious explanation is that nobody has produced an electric car that people (outside of a small niche) want to own. People WANT SUVs, minivans, air conditioning, and 300 horsepower engines, and want to be able to refuel conveniently in under 5 minutes. At least so far. I also wouldn't count on a piece in the Opinion section as presenting all the facts without bias.
