On my 81, you can't get at the front heater motor without pulling the dash and opening the heat distribution box. Likely the same on most, or all, other models. Now that I've done it twice (removing dash) I can see it's not that hard. The time consuming stuff is redoing the foam on the flaps and IF the box is sealed with some kind of goop, there is more time needed to get it apart and clean the joining faces.
