Reasons why barefoot driving is illegal: "Because". But, by not bringing shoes with you while driving a vanagon you do get more pedal control (better gas milege right?) and if you leave the shoes at home you may lighten your load by an insignificant enough bit to make it up some hills. Maybe putting a shoe over your air intake will work the same as that "JUICE BOX" product (maybe you could do this with an actual juice box?) by limiting the O2 that makes it into the engine and making it run a little lean. A lesson i've learned: It's much harder to push a vanagon that breaks down in the middle of a road off the road when your either in sandals, or barefoot.
